Healing Trauma

A Sanctuary for Reflection and Rest

If you are carrying the heavy burdens of trauma, burnout, or moral distress, you do not have to walk that path alone. Here, we offer a peaceful space for personal restoration by integrating professional spiritual direction with a gentle, grounding connection to the earth. Through our active care farm and ongoing regenerative land projects, you are invited to step away from the noise of the world and find peace in the quiet rhythms of our wilderness landscape.

What is Moral Injury?

Emerging statistics reveal a sobering truth: Moral Injury, distinct from and often more pervasive than PTSD, is a leading driver of suicide among Veterans and trauma survivors. Unlike a psychological disorder, Moral Injury is fundamentally a spiritual wound. It creates a profound rift in the human soul following exposure to, or participation in, events that violate an individual's deeply held ethical beliefs. This unseen fracture isolates individuals from their families, breaks community bonds, and severs their connection to the divine. Emerging clinical and pastoral studies confirm that specialized spiritual direction—guided by experienced chaplains, clergy, or dedicated spiritual directors—is a vital, necessary pathway to addressing and healing Moral Injury.

  • The Root of the Crisis: Research shows that Moral Injury—even more than PTSD—is a primary driver of suicide among Veterans and trauma survivors.

  • A Spiritual Wound: Moral Injury is not a psychological illness; it is a deep wound to the soul that occurs when a person witnesses or takes part in actions that violate their core moral values.

  • The Toll of Isolation: This internal conflict creates a devastating rift, separating individuals from family, community, and their sense of the divine.

  • The Path to Healing: Studies demonstrate that structured spiritual direction provided by chaplains, clergy, and spiritual directors is essential to address and repair Moral Injury.

The Wilderness Retreat Experience

Our healing retreats have been actively running since January 2024, designed and led by Dr. Jen Anderson, PhD. Our trauma-informed programming offers a safe sanctuary for those who carry the heaviest burdens. We are proud to have already served and supported:

  • Military Veterans navigating PTSD and Moral Injury

  • First Responders and ER Nurses on the front lines of healthcare

  • Childhood Abuse Survivors seeking a path toward lasting peace

Flexible Immersions Built for Your Healing

Because every recovery journey requires its own pace, we offer customizable stays ranging from a 4-day restorative break to an immersive 4-week residency. Whether you need a short window to unplug and re-center, or a comprehensive month-long sanctuary to deeply process complex trauma and settle into a restorative routine, our schedule flexes to support your personal goals.

The Healing Power of Nature
There is a profound connection between the natural world and our inner landscape. Our wilderness setting is a therapeutic sanctuary designed entirely for your personal well-being, reflection, and rest. For many, healing begins simply by being present in nature—sitting in the quiet shade, listening to the wind, or walking through the peaceful desert landscape to naturally lower stress and calm the nervous system.

Ongoing Connection: Remote Spiritual Direction

Healing is an ongoing journey that doesn't end when a retreat is over, nor should it be limited by geography. For those who face travel barriers, or for participants seeking continued, consistent support after returning home, we offer individual and group remote spiritual direction. Through secure online sessions, you can access the same dedicated, trauma-informed guidance and spiritual care from the comfort of your own space, ensuring a reliable lifeline of support wherever you are.

Healing Activities

If and when you feel ready, you are also welcome to engage in gentle, self-paced activities like planting seeds or interacting with our permaculture projects. Whether you choose silent reflection under the open sky or tactile work with the earth, the land serves as a gentle companion in your recovery, helping you process heavy experiences at your own speed.

Other things the land offers:

  • 330 acres of private land to explore surrounded by 300, 000 acres of undeveloped wilderness

  • Quiet Sonoran Desert

  • Class 2 Dark Night Skies

  • Alamo Lake

  • Big Sandy & Santa Maria Riparian rivers

  • Hiking, kayaking, fishing, bird watching

  • Care Farm
